Marlis Kunigunde Clough passed away at her home on Friday, January 31, 2020. Born June 3, 1961 in Hassfurt, Germany to Adam and Enya Grasser, she worked as a dental hygienist for three years before moving to Cairo, Georgia in 1981. After 18 years working for Dixie Oil Company in Cairo, she was recruited by Swifty Serve and served as their regional store manager for two years. In 2001, she met her husband John P. Clough and made the move to Thomasville, Georgia. There, she found rewarding work as a paraprofessional to severely disabled children at Garrison Pilcher Elementary School. She then became a certified gemologist, certified diamontologist, and registered pearl appraiser while working at Lewis Jewelers beginning in 2009, where she also went on to be store manager. Marlis fought a heroic battle with breast cancer undergoing four surgeries, chemotherapy, radiology, and only missing one day of work. She is survived by her loving husband, John P. Clough, mother Enya Grasser and brother Hartmut Grasser of Hassfurt, Germany, daughter Stella Avery Ward (Brandon) of Las Vegas, Nevada, stepchildren Margaret Mock (Garrett), John “Austin” Clough, Catherine “Lucy” Clough of Atlanta, and stepgrandsons Finley and Maxwell Mock of Atlanta, Georgia.
