Funeral services for Mary Agnes Long Dukes of Thomasville will be held on Wednesday November 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Dawson Street Baptist Church with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Rev. Lee Waller will officiate. Mary passed away on Saturday November 20, 2021 at Southern Pines Senior Living. Born on March 4, 1940 in Ochlocknee, she was the daughter of the late Hollie Long and Louise Barnes Long. Born and raised in Ochlocknee, she attended Ochlocknee schools until her 12th year of high school. She was a member of the first graduating class of Central High School in 1959. Through the years she worked at Garrison Pilcher Elementary School, Independent Life Insurance Company and Senior Life Insurance Company, where she retired. She enjoyed her jobs but her greatest joy was being a wife, mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mary was an active member of Dawson Street Baptist Church for over 40 years where she kept the 2 year old nursery for over 20 years. She also enjoyed her ladies Sunday School Class, WMU, and the Lucille Burgess Thursday morning Bible study. She was married to James Lamar Dukes who preceded her in death on June 15, 1998. Survivors include her daughter Tracy Courtney and husband Mark of Thomasville; son Jimmy Dukes and wife Sheila of Thomasville; grandchildren Adam Courtney and wife Meredith of Cumming, Ga., Laura Courtney of Cumming, Ga, Mary Claire Lee and husband Erik of Renton, WA, Emily Dukes of Valdosta, Ga; great grandchildren Owen Courtney and Collins Courtney; sister Susan Wyrick of Thomasville, Ga; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Raiford Long, Robert Long, and sister Betty Long.
