Mary Louise Freeman Sauceman passed away on May 21, 2022, at Woodleaf Assisted Living in Thomasville, Georgia. She was born in Chickamauga Georgia on November 26, 1922, to the late Joseph Bryan Freeman and Minnie Lee Atkins Freeman. She married J.C. (Sauce) Sauceman on June 29, 1940, in LaFayette, Ga. Mary was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in LaFayette, Ga, where she lived most of her life. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School and attended Edmonson Junior College of Chattanooga, Tenn. She was a member of the LaFayette Crochet Club, former member of the LaFayette Womans Club, and the LaFayette Golf Course. Mary served as a volunteer at Shepherd Hills Rest Home with the Red Cross, Care Mission, and Kids for Christ before her retirement. She retired from the Walker County Messenger where she was social editor and columnist for some 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Sauceman, son, Jake Sauceman, parents, Joseph and Minnie Lee Freeman. Survivors include her son, Mike Sauceman (Lana), daughter, Louann Sauceman Pilcher, grandchildren, April Garner (Greg), Michelle Downes (Joey), Jeff Sauceman and Carrie Hale (Jarrell), great-grandchildren, Will Garner (Lindsay), Sarah Garner (Eric Elrod), Kate Garner (Trent), Kinzey Chapman, Jost Hale, Pace Hale, and Landrey Hale, great-great-grandchild, Levi Garner, cousin, Linda Bell, and several cousins in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mary spent the last 10 years of her life in Thomasville, Georgia, and lived the past 6 ½ years in Woodleaf Assisted Living. Visitation will be held at the LaFayette First Baptist Church on Thursday, May 26, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. with the service to follow. Dr. Todd Gaddis will officiate. Interment at LaFayette City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ken Jones, Glen Jones, Stanley Ledbetter, Steve Ledbetter, Dave Gilbert, Charles Wardlaw, and Andy Arnold. Honorary pallbearers are Phil Gilstrap, Buddy Chapman, Dale Wilson, Raney Carpenter, Guy Pope, Jerry Wilhelm, Ray Tucker, Lee Parker, Breck Parker, Gene Garner, Moe Gass, Neil Florence, Dr. Robert Jones, Dannis Hood, Tommy Edge, Bill Ransom, Bobb Chappell, and Joe Moore.
