Mary Constance Miller Harris, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker died April 12, 2021 following an illness. She was 85.
She leaves a rich legacy as a talented homemaker, the most important role in God’s plan for humanity, and as a nurturing family matriarch, accomplished musician, artist, avid naturalist and friend to everyone she met. Her genuine personality was one of her hallmark traits.
A native of Thomasville, Georgia, she was an honors graduate of Thomasville High School and attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina. When younger, she participated in many community activities such as Thomasville’s Rose Festival and Miss Georgia Peach competition.
While providing a nurturing home environment for her family, she served as a church school teacher, Cub Scout den mother, PTA president and community garden club leader. As PTA president, she led a successful campaign to build a gymnasium for her sons’ elementary school.
She had been an active church member in Thomasville and in communities where she and her family lived before moving to Austin, Texas more than 30 years ago. At the time of her death she was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Austin, Texas where she served as a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King as well as Altar Guild.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Harris, Sr.; four sons, William C. Harris and wife, Jeanne; Howard Harris, Jr., Mark M. Harris and wife, Lori, and Ashley S. Harris; grandson, Evan C. Harris; granddaughter, Madeleine N. Reid, and husband, Ty; sisters-in-law, Peggy T. Miller and Dee R. Miller, and a number of extended family members in Georgia, Texas and Alabama. She was predeceased by her parents, Anna D. Miller and William J. Miller, and brothers, William D. Miller and David J. Miller.
Visitation on Thursday, April 22, 2021, 5:00 o’clock pm to 7:00 o’clock pm at Allen & Allen Funeral Home, Thomasville, Georgia. Formal Service held on Friday, April 23, 2021, 2:00 o’clock pm to 3:00 o’clock pm at Allen & Allen with burial in the family plot at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville.
