Mary Ellen O'Connor died peacefully on November 14th, 2018, at home in Thomasville, Ga, surrounded by family and friends. Mary Ellen was born April 24th, 1933 to Peter and Catherine O'Connor of Indianapolis, IN. They Proceeded her in death along with: two sisters, Patricia Baranowski and Catherine Roth; one brother, Peter O'Connor, Jr., one niece, Cheryl Roth Wolkoff and Mary Ellen's dearest life-long friend, Joan Kenny.
Mary Ellen is survived by: her brother-in-law, Frank Baranowski of FL; two nieces, Patty Ann Sitser (Dennis) of OR, Kathleen Maldonado (Charles) of FL; five nephews, Frank Baranowski, Jr (Denise), Robert Baranowski, and Peter Baranowski (Janet) all of Florida, Stephen Roth (Sandy) of NJ, Kurt Roth (Laura) of OK; four great nieces, Mary Catherine Goldschein (Jordan) of NY, Andrea Maldonado and Christa Ann Baranowski of FL, Nikki Pinczok (Daniel) of CO; and two great nephews, Bryan Maldanado (Ashley) of SC and Patrick Wolkoff of VT. After graduating in 1951 from St. Mary’s High School in Miami, FL, Mary Ellen entered a life of religious service with the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Augustine, FL. She taught many first graders throughout Florida and remained with the religious Order until 1961. But serving others through nursing proved to be an even stronger calling and she graduated nursing school from Hotel-Dieu De Saint Joseph Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada in 1966. Upon returning to Florida, she worked in various hospitals, but felt her career path was not yet complete. She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1972 as a Certified Nurse Midwife. Her career took her back to Florida to set up Midwifery programs in the state. Mary Ellen’s true passion was for the care of women and children and she delivered many babies working at numerous facilities throughout Florida and Georgia. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered by Father Godfrey Boachi-Yiadom on Monday, November 19th, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Thomasville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church, Thomasville or the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Augustine, FL.
