Services for Mary Sallie Phillips Wright, 82, recently of Cabot, Arkansas, and long-time resident of Thomasville, GA., will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 2:00PM, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel, with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Reverends Bob Hall and Will Feland will officate. Mrs. Wright was born June 16, 1920, the daughter of Vass and Martha Jane Phillips by whom she is predeceased. She was married on January 28, 1942, in Thomasville, to the late Charlie Betts Wright, Sr. The couple celebrated fifty-five years of marriage together. Mary Wright graduated from Thomasville High School in 1939. A charter member of Dawson Street United Methodist Church, Mrs. Wright was active in women's circle groups and mission work of the church. In later years she enjoyed the companionship and fellowship of Southern Pines Retirement Community, especially the chapel services. For many years Mrs. Wright served as secretary of the W. R. Milton YMCA, watching active children grow and enjoy activities offered at the YMCA. It was a special pleasure for her to meet young people at the YMCA whose parents she had known as YMCA member many years earlier. She was long-term record keeper for the Thomasville Community Chest and, later, the United Way program and was active in Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs when her own children were young. Mr. and Mrs. Wright lost two daughters in infancy. Survivors include her three loving children and their spouses: her daughter Jane and Bill Stephens of Walterboro, South Carolina; her son Charlie and Sandra Wright of Jasper, Georgia; and her daughter Martha and Will Feland of Cabot, Arkansas. She also is survived by her much-loved sister, Ruth Mason, her attentive niece Mabel George and her children, all of Yazoo City, Mississippi, and a special niece Patricia Phillips Fricks of Carrollton, Georgia. The lights of Mary Wright's life were her grandchildren: Will Stephens, II; Glen Stephens; Michael Stephens; Delena Suber; Heather Barker; Leighton ''Bucky'' Miller; Price Feland; and Nancy Feland. She was specially proud to be a great grandmother to Holly Rollins, Troy Barker and Angie Stephens. Her sister-in-law, Ruth Phillips, survives her as do many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Dawson Street United Methodist Church or to the Chairy of your choice. Visitation is from 1-2PM on Saturday, prior to the service at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel.
