A service celebrating the life of Mary Warren Long Scoggins, 74 will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Thomasville, Ga where she was a member. Mrs. Scoggins passed away on May 27 at Archbold Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, their children, and special friends.
Born October 19, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida, Mary Warren was the daughter of the late Warren Butler Long and Helen Elizabeth Kautsch Long. She was preceded in death by her son, James Roland “Jake” Clanton, III. A graduate of Thomasville High School in 1962, she attended the University of Georgia. She married her beloved husband of 24 years, Frank Scoggins on February 4, 2005 in Thomasville.
Mary Warren was a quiet soul who adored her family and her loyal schnauzer Katie. She bravely faced adversity and had a gentle smile in the midst of every storm. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always tried to find the silver lining in a situation. She was confident in her faith in Christ. Asked recently if she was afraid of dying, she responded, “I wish that I could see my grandchildren grow up, but I’m not afraid. Not at all. I know where I am going.” She was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be terribly missed and all who knew her were blessed.
Mrs. Scoggins leaves the husband she adored, Frank Scoggins, daughters Cindi Clanton Ackerman (Bob) and Carri Clanton Smith, both of Tallahassee, and three step-children Brooke Scoggins King (Matt), Neal Scoggins (Amy), and Meredith Scoggins Blue (Graham) of Thomasville along with their families. She was a proud grandmother to Kennedy Ackerman, Mills Ackerman, Helen Smith, Lucy Smith, and Rich Smith, who for years enjoyed the tradition of “Friday Lunch” with their mothers, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cousins.
Survivors also include her loving older sister, Martie Long Hunter (Powell) of Canton, Ga, and nephews Powell Hunter III (Luanne) and Stephen Hunter (Keisha) and their families. Mary Warren was surrounded by a wonderful, prayerful, loving group of friends until the very end including Sue Clanton, Sheila Coffin, Ann Cope, and Mary Louise Ackerman.
A private graveside service will precede an 11 o’clock service at First Baptist Church in Thomasville on Thursday, May 30, 2019. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow the service.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, May 29, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2790, Thomasville, Ga 31792, Faithful is He Ministries, PO Box 673, Thomasville, Ga 31799 or the charity of your choice.
