Mary Alice Searles

Graveside services for Mary Alice Gibbs Searles, 97 of Thomasville will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August, 14, 2024 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pastor Sean Jacobs and Pastor Mike Hanscome will officiate. Ms. Searles went home to be with the Lord on August 11 2024 at Legacy Village. Born July 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Sumner & Sudie Gibbs. She was married to John W. Searles on February 24, 1945, who preceded her in death. After their marriage, they moved to Richmond, VA. where they lived for 5-6 years. Then moved back to Thomasville, where they raised their family. She attended Thomasville High School and Joyce Business School in Thomasville. She worked for People's Furniture for 10 years as the office manager and then was office supervisor for Gulf Life Insurance for 30 years. She attended Eastside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She is survived by her son, James Travis Gibbs and wife Amy of Thomasville; grandchildren, Julie Ryerson Dinkins, Eric Ryerson and Amber Gibbs Niswonger and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Barbarba Ann Searles Ryerson and siblings, Nelda Searcy, Jack Gibbs, Gerald Gibbs and James Gibbs. The family will receive friends 5-7pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel.
