Services for Mary VanLandingham Hackney of Thomasville are at 11:00AM on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church where she was a member. The Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mrs. Hackney died Apr. 30 at Clare Bridge Home in Tallahassee, Fl. Born September 29, 1928 in Cairo she was the daughter of the late Robert Roscoe and Mabel L. Maxwell VanLandingham. She was married to Richard Johnson Hackney, Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Hackney was a 1949 graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in elementary education and music. While at the University of Georgia she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was a member and former president of the Rambler Rose Garden Club and the Vashti Auxiliary. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Presbyterian Women Circle Leader, a homemaker and a teacher at Balfour Elementary. Survivors include son, Richard Hackney, Jr. of Bloomingdale, GA, son and daughter-in-law, George and Juliane Hackney of Quincy, FL, daughter and son-in-law, Mary Carol and John McCall, son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Laura Hackney of Marietta, GA, daughter, Marjorie H. Shaw of Thomasville; grandchildren, Sarah Hackney, George Hackney, Jr., Martin Hackney, Joseph Hackney, William Hackney, Cullin Hamm, Richard Hamm, Katie Hackney and Tom Shaw; sisters, Mabel V. Kral and Beth V. Wight both of Cairo. Memorials may be made to the Thomasville Garden Club Charitable Fund, P.O. 2654, Thomasville, GA 31799.
