Mary Jean Chalkley Alligood

Services for Mary Jean Chalkley Alligood of Thomasville are at 4:00PM on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Alligood died June 1, 2003 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born February 26, 1926, in Colquitt Co., GA., she was the daughter of the late Victor and Idelle Holland Chalkley. On October 12, 1963, in Doerun, GA., she married Hubert Alligood who preceded her in death. She was the former owner of Alligood Tire Service. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was Past President and Treasurer of the Thomasville Woman's Club, a member of the Briarcliff Garden Club and was Past President of the Countess Vandal Garden Club. She also served on the Board of the 2nd District of Georgia's Federation of Women's Clubs, and served as Chair, Community Improvement Program. She was also a charter member of the Pilot Club. Survivors include daughters, Joy Alligood of Thomasville, Dawn Alligood of Atlanta, and daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Richard Goldsmith of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Cora Rice of Moultrie, brother-in-law, Bradford Alligood of Thomasville, sister-in-law, Christine Knapp of Tulsa, OK.; nephews, Douglas H. Chalkley of Toney, Al. and Jim Chalkley of Moultrie and dear friend, Fred Johnson of Thomasville. Donations may be made to Thomasville Garden Clubs, Inc., P.O.
