Memorial services for Matthew Talbot Nunnally III will be held at First United Methodist Church on Friday, March 25th at 2pm. Rev. Burns Willis, Rev. Bob Dixon and Rev. Mike Huling will officiate. Mr. Nunnally passed away at Archbold Hospital on March 22nd. He was born in Thomasville on Oct 25, 1928 to the late Talbot and Mae Upchurch Nunnally, graduated from Thomasville High School in 1946, and later attended and graduated from Emory University where he majored in economics and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. While at Emory, he obtained his pilot?s license and enjoyed flying for many years. He attended US Navy Officer?s Candidate School and served as a Lt. jg on the USS Ingersol for 3 years. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Nunnally returned to Thomasville as office manager and later credit manager for Davis Industries. In 1962, he was a partner in the Oglesby-Nunnally Monument Corp. for 8 years. He later joined Secrest Pulpwood and Timber where he began his career as a realtor. He then obtained his real estate broker's license and founded Nunnally and Associates Realtors, which he owned and operated for 20 years before retiring in 1990. A lifetime member of Thomasville's First United Methodist Church, he served on the board of stewards, as finance chairman, and as a member of the Lawson Neel Sunday school class. He also was a member of the Thomasville Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and a past president of the Thomasville YMCA and the Thomasville Realtors Association. Mr. Nunnally was an avid camper and enjoyed hiking and reading. He was well known for his optimistic outlook on life and his dedication to family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Barbara Teate, of Thomasville. Other survivors include his 3 children, Paula Nunnally Wright of Chattanooga, TN, Matt Nunnally of Thomasville and Luten Nunnally Donna of Canton, GA; his sister Betty Nunnally Cook Lee of Thomasville along with 5 grandchildren- Allison Douthat Ryan of Richmond, VA, Cheri Cochran Michael of Rock Spring, GA, Ashley Ramsey Scott of Gray, TN, Parker and Connor Nunnally of Canton, GA plus 4 great grandchildren- Kayleigh and Sydney Douthat and Austin and Kyzer Cochran in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, Ga 31799, the Thomasville YMCA, P.O. Box 1037, Thomasville, GA 31799, the Thomas County Food Bank, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, Ga 31799, the Archbold Foundation, Gordon Ave at Mimosa Dr, Thomasville, Ga 31792 or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Allen and Allen Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home this evening, Thursday, March 24th from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
