Melton (Buddy) Hall

Melton E. “Buddy” Hall, Jr., age 69 passed away Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born at Archbold Memorial Hospital on September 20th, 1952 to the late Melton E. “Ed” Hall, Sr., and Doris Fielding Hall. He was married to his long-time “sweetheart” of 47+ years to Dianne Young Hall, on September 7th, 1974 who survives along with his “riding partner” Blue Doogy Hall, their 3-year-old English Cocker Spaniel.

Buddy was a 1970 graduate of Thomasville High School. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served from 1970 to 1974 where he was a Jet Engine Mechanic and Draftsman. Upon discharge in 1974, he then attended college at Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Georgia.

He and Dianne moved back to Thomasville, Georgia in 1976 where he worked at the local YMCA and construction of custom homes.

He was a proud, loving and devoted father to his son, Britt Edgar Hall “Precious” born on December 12, 1978. Britt predeceased him on August 16th, 1983.

In 1981 he had the opportunity to start his career in the Oil Industry with John Chance Offshore Surveyors in Lafayette, Louisiana. Furthering this career with McMillan Offshore Survival, Safety Technology & Oilfied Protectors and Chevron Oil Company. This career gave him the opportunity to travel internationally to Scotland, Saudi Arabia, Tengiz Kazakhstan, Angola Africa, and Portugal. Buddy loved his work and all his travels, allowing him to learn and participate in so many cultures. Dianne also was able to meet up with him on his time off traveling to Frankfurt Germany, Switzerland, Paris, French Riviera, London and Portugal. He retired from Chevron February 14th 2002 as a Safety Environmental Engineer.

Buddy was an avid swimmer, swim instructor, scuba diver and wind surfer. He also loved riding his R1200 BMW motorcycle, hunting, fishing, boating and sailing. Some of his most fond memories were the sail boat trips he and Dianne took with special friends to the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Buddy was always the “Captain” and his prerequisite to their trips was all had to watch the movie, Captain Ron, for “If anything is going to happen, it’s going to happen out there”.

Leaving Louisiana in 1998, they moved to Destin, Florida, and in 2013 to Cairo, Georgia. He made many life time friends in Destin and by moving to Cairo gave him the opportunity to reconnect with many of his High School classmates. These gatherings became something he so looked forward to each time. Buddy lived a full, adventurous and exciting life. Known to his nieces and nephews as “UB” and his great nieces and nephews as “Great Bud”. He was a proud Life Member of American Mensa.

Survivors are his sister, Carolyn Nutt of Whigham, brothers Sterling Hall of Moultrie and Dwayne (Debbie) Hall of Kannapolis, North Carolina; brother-in-laws, Bob (Debbie) Young of Villa Rica, Ellis (Evelyn) Young of Cumming, and his sister-in-law, Beverly Young (Jerry) Hawkins of Thomasville. He also has many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many dear friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
