On Thursday, November 12, 2020, Merinda Jackson Judy, loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend passed away at age 73 in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Merinda was born on December 19, 1946 in Moultrie GA to Donald and Georgie (Abercrombie) Jackson. She graduated from Thomas Technical Institute in 1966 with her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She was employed at Southwestern State Hospital for 30 years and gained many lasting friendships during this time. In addition to nursing, Merinda worked with her mother at G&S Jackson Income Tax and Bookkeeping Service. On May 11, 1974, she married the love of her life Farrell Lethco Judy, III. Together they raised two daughters Cheryl and Dana, and one son, Bart. Merinda had a passion for taking care of others including her father, mother, and brother. Merinda was known as Mama Judy to friends, and enjoyed spending time with everyone.
Merinda was preceded in death by her father, Donald, her mother Georgie, her brother Ronald, and her son-in-law Marty Leverett. She is survived by her husband Farrell, daughter Cheryl Leverett, son Bart Collins, and daughter Dana (Stephen) Stewart, and her sister Donnell (Vernon) Cook, grandchildren Kristin Reeves, Kailee (Adam) Flynn, Harry Williams, Bailey Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Trevor Collins, and a very special great granddaughter Layla Bobe, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to family, she leaves behind special friends including JoAnn Burgess, Elaine Simpson, Lynda Woods, Darlene Hitt, and her faithful companions Bandit and Sassy. Graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11:00am. Services will be officiated by Gary Judy.
