Services for Michael Dewayne McDowell, 18, of Thomasville, are Friday, February 9, 2007, at 2:00PM Gatlin Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Love and the Rev. Homer Croft officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jamie Love, Brad Love, Byron Croft, A J Kirkland, Cash Patel and David Jones. Born March 4, 1988 in Thomasville, he was the son of Carlene McDowell & Wes Williams and Dewayne & Jeanne McDowell who survive. Michael graduated May 20, 2006 with high awards, from Thomas County Central High School. He entered basic training at Lacklin Air Force Base on Aug 29, 2006 for the United States Air Force. On October 11, 2006, Michael graduated from basic training and then went on to technical training school at Sheppard Air Force Base where he graduated with honors, second in his class, after receiving a perfect mark on his final exam as a jet engine mechanic on January 31, 2007. Michael was more than a brother and friend to Kelly McDowell, Bo Williams, Stormy Jean Keen, Justin Duane Rogers and Noah McDowell. He was the grandson to Homer & Dene Croft, Donald & Frances McDowell, and step-grandparents, John & Roberta Williams. Brother Alex Clayton McDowell preceded him in death. Michael is well loved by all his immediate and extended family, which includes many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. He loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, singing, playing the guitar, and spending time with his friends and family. He never shunned hard work and was a natural leader. Michael Dewayne McDowell will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Michael is an inspiration and a blessing to all of us. He was proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7-9 pm.
