Michael Vernon Whitley

October 29, 1949 — September 28, 2022

Michael V. Whitley 72 of Thomasville, GA entered his heavenly home peacefully on September 28, 2022 at his home. Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Barwick, GA at Rosewood Cemetery. Rev. Jamie Baggett (nephew) will officiate. Mike was born October 29, 1949 in San Diego, CA to the late John Madison Whitley and Vivian Herwehe Higgins. He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Howard Floyd's Life Group.

Mike was a veteran who served our country in the 3d Brigade 101st Airborne Division in the Vietnam War. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/4Stars, the Vietnam C medal w/60 Device, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal and the Bronze Star Medal w/"V" Device (First Oak Leaf Cluster). He was a forward observer and was in the "Battle of Hamburger Hill".

On November 25, 2000 in San Diego, CA he married the love of his life Sheila Palmer Whitley whom he affectionately called (Lovey). Mike enjoyed reading and studying the Bible especially prophesy and end times. He was a great witness for Christ and was always ready to share his testimony and his love for the Lord and how Jesus had changed his life. He also enjoyed the outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening or just enjoying God's creation!

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, two very special daughters Michelle Kay Ketner (fiance Jeffery Smith) of Wylie TX and Crystal Palmer George (Chris) of Thomasville, GA. He also leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Dusty Ketner (Mercedes) of Lavon, TX; Holly Ketner (Kyle Gokey) of Jacksonville, TX; Callie Carter, Catherine Alan, and Collins Elizabeth George of Thomasville, GA and great grandson Deegan Ketner of Lavon, TX. Brother Rodd Whitley(Connie) of San Diego, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Johnna Pina and Douglas Whitley of San Diego, CA. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
