Mildred (Ann) Kennedy Dillinger was born in rural Thomas County on Nov. 23, 1923 and died July 6, 2015 in Huntsville, Alabama. She grew up during the Depression and graduated from Pavo High School where she was part of the first Girl’s Basketball team. After starting college in 1941 she left school to work in several different war-time plants in Florida and Georgia. She returned to Thomasville after World War II and met and married Dr. George R. Dillinger (1902 -1973), a local physician. She was actively involved in local activities such as the Alter Guild of both, St. Thomas and All Saints Episcopal Churches, the Garden Club and the Auxiliary of the Medical Association of Thomas County and of the State Association where her husband served for many years. After her husband’s death, many may remember her as a long time employee at Neel’s Dept. Store, where she worked with her sister, Elizabeth Anderson.
Her family best remembers her as the constant in taking on three step-children as a young bride and blending together a large and loving family. Survivors include two sisters, Deweecie Blair of Quitman, Elizabeth Anderson of Thomasville, daughters Ann D. Elgin (husband,Doug) of Huntsville, AL, Jeanne D. Crass (husband, David) of Decatur, GA, son George J. Dillinger (wife, Barbara) of Kingman, AZ, step-son Charles R. Dillinger, of Dearing,GA and Daughters-in-law, Sara D. Dillinger of Thomson, GA and Sissy Dillinger of Thomasville. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Thomasville on Sunday, November 22 at 2 PM. A Visitation with the Family will follow the service in the Parish Hall.
