Graveside Services for Mildred H. Millie Beene will be Sunday, January 29, at 2:00 p.m. on Louisiana St. at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, GA. Garland Basford will officiate. Millie passed away Friday, January 27 at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to Effie Louse Edwards and Walker R. Hawkins, JR., Mrs. Beene was educated in Starkville, MS where she married her childhood sweetheart, Charles H. Beene who preceded her in death on January 23, 2011. Mrs. Beene was an avid traveler and followed her husband to his military bases through two wars, except for overseas. During WWII she contributed as a civilian by helping install oxygen lines in B-17 bombers, a real life "Rosie the Riveter." Soon after their retirement she and her late husband spent much time traveling with friends and family members through the years. Mrs.Beene enjoyed interior decorating, flower arranging, and teaching children to read at Jerger Elementary School. Millie was a beautiful, loving mother and grandmother, who always put her children and grandchildren's needs above all else. She loved to cook, she loved sunsets at the beach, and she loved welcoming friends into her home. Music was the sunshine of her life and she always sang a happy song. She was a kind and generous Southern lady who made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her survivors include a son and daughter in law, Brant and Celia Beene of Birmingham, AL; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Philip Hester of Gainesville, GA, and six grandchildren: Charley Katy, Billy and Libby Beene of Birmingham, Al, and Whitney Paul Anthony, J. Philip and Ford Hester of Gainesville, GA and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Beene was a member of the Church of Christ in Thomasville. Her family would like to thank her many compassionate caretakers, especially Dr. Rick Fenlon, Dr. Rick Kerensky, Dr. Brian Gaupp, Dr. Stephen Johnson, and Nurse Michelle Minor, Hospice Nurse Jordana Davis, and the CPU staff at Archbold Hospital. Family and friends may sign the online guest registry at www.allenfh.com .
