Mildred Horne

Services for Mildred "Millie" Franklin Horne, 88, of Thomasville, will be conducted Monday at 2 PM, November 12, 2012, at First Baptist Church Chapel, where she was a long-time member. Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate with internment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Horne died Friday November 9 at her residence at Southern Pines Assisted Living Facility after a lengthy illness. Born April 3, 1924, in Graniteville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Perin Franklin and Mattie Couch Franklin. She graduated from University Hospital School of Nursing in Augusta, Ga. in 1945 as a Registered Nurse. On January 11, 1947 she married Bennett F. Horne who preceded her in death. She assisted him in his business, Horne Candy Co., which he founded in February 1947. Mrs. Horne worked there until his death in January of 1995. She was an active member of the Joy Sunday School class, Women on Missions, and served as director of the nursery for 20 years at First Baptist Church. She is survived by her two daughters Ellen Horne Hunsucker Richard of Thomasville and Jane Horne Joiner Neil of Vienna, Ga. and son Rick Horne Vicki of Nashville, Tn.; seven grandchildren: Scott Dixon of Atlanta, Ga.; Chris Dixon of Heidelberg, Germany, Ben Stewart Danielle of Thomasville; Ashley Horne of Brooklyn, N.Y., Carrie Joiner Bodrey Clay of Damascus, Ga., Erin Joiner Calloway Matt of Atlanta, Seth Neil Joiner of Los Angeles, Ca., and six great-grandchildren: Abby Bodrey, Melanie Bodrey, Megan Calloway, Stella Salvi-Dixon, Noah Stewart and Jacob Hollingsworth. During her illness she was lovingly cared for by Pam Christiansen, Rhonda Jackson, Connie Maxwell, and Cynthia Mitchell. Memorials may be made to the Goal Line Ministries of Thomasville PO Box 1202, Thomasville, GA 31799 or the Metcalfe Heritage Society, PO Box 1285, Thomasville, GA 31799.
