Muriel Jones James passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 93 and lived a long and blessed life. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, July 22 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home and her funeral will be at 11:00 on Tuesday, July 23 at Allen and Allen. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers she requested donations be made to the Fisher House Foundation.
She was born on July 4, 1931. Muriel and her three younger siblings were raised in Jacksonville, Florida by her mother and aunt. Shortly after high school she met and fell in love with Jack James. They married in 1949 and lived in Jacksonville. They were blessed with four children. She was a loving and caring wife and mother. Her Christian faith was the foundation for her family. She had a wonderful voice and sang in the church choir. In 1973 Jack and Muriel moved to Tallahassee. As their children grew and began their own families, Muriel learned a new trade and became a bookkeeper. After Jack's untimely death in 1992, Muriel moved to Thomasville. She was always happy to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Her sister Dot died in 2015, and her sister Jean (survived by her husband John) and brother Byron (survived by his wife Valliere) both died in 2022. Muriel has 4 children: Jack (wife Rachel); Judy (husband Jim); Susan (husband Rudy); and Scott (wife Annette). She has 8 grandchildren: Colleen, Kaitlynn, Kristi, Jonathan, Brian, Jezza, Anna, and Julia. Her great-grands are Riley, Tommy, Michael, Edie, Ezra, Augie, Jakob and Clara.
We remember Muriel’s deep faith and commitment to her husband and family. She was slow to judge, quick to forgive, and never looked for attention. In her we truly see God’s love. “When I stand before my Lord I hope He'll say to me that I've loved too many rather than too few.”
