Nancy Watson Singletary

With deep love and gratitude for her life, the family of Nancy Watson Singletary announces her passing on February 28, 2026. Nancy died peacefully at her home in Thomasville, Georgia after a brief illness, surrounded by family.

Born in Thomasville on July 6, 1954, Nancy was known for her intelligence, kindness, creativity, and gentle spirit, which touched many. She was an honor graduate at Thomasville High School. She graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1976 with a degree in education, and she began her teaching career in Atlanta with the Dekalb County school system. She also taught at Trinity Christian School in Atlanta and Brookwood School in Thomasville.

In her later career, she taught PE at Brookwood where she especially enjoyed starting morning exercise, yoga classes, and running programs that inspired children to begin their days with energy and joy.

Nancy was devoted to service, especially through Hands and Hearts for Horses, the therapeutic riding program founded by her father, Terrell Singletary. She spent many hours with him at the barn, joyfully working with horses and children with special needs. 

Nancy loved animals and nature. She helped her mother nurse many wild animals back to health. An accomplished equestrian in her younger years, she was proud to have earned third place at the National Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration riding her beloved horse, George. Some of her favorite animals were dachshunds, poodles, and hedgehogs. 

Nancy was a gifted watercolor artist who shared her mother Nan Singletary's love of painting, often turning scenes from around the family farm into handmade cards and thoughtful notes. 

Nancy loved working in her yard and filling friends' kitchens with homemade pear relish, salsa, and fig preserves. One of her happiest places was St. George Island where she treasured walks on the beach, sunshine, and time with the people she loved most.

Nancy's greatest joy was her family. She delighted in her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephew: she was always ready with a new game, a pool day, a tea party, or a simple ride on the golf cart to make them feel special and loved.

Nancy will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle humor, and the countless ways she quietly cared for others. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who were blessed by her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hands and Hearts for Horses in her honor.
