A memorial service for Chief Warrant Officer Three (US Army Retired) Nash LaVaughn Cooper, 73 of Pavo will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Pavo United Methodist Church. Rev. Marshall Singletary and Dr. Bob Shane will officiate. Mr. Cooper passed away February 13, 2015 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie. Born August 17, 1941 in Barwick, he was the son of the late Harold & Flora Nash Cooper. He was proudly retired from the US Army and received the following decorations; Bronze Star Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendations Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (3 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (8 Campaigns), Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Republic of Vietnam Medal. He was a paratrooper for a number of years and completed 113 jumps, was a graduate of Ranger School at Ft. Benning in 1966 and was with the Green Berets for more than 3 ½ years and the 82 Airborne Division for a short period and spent 3 ½ years in Vietnam primarily with the 1st Cavalry Division during his 20 years of service. He served his Country with pride and loved to fish and spend time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carrie Lauretta Cooper of Pavo; daughters, Monica Cooper of Thomasville, Cheryl Harbin and husband Clint of Tiger, Ga, Cindy Monk and husband Mark of Thomasville; sons, Gary Johnston of Pavo, Hugh Austin and wife Linda of Cairo and Christopher A. Cooper and wife Kristin of Pavo; grandchildren, McKelly Cooper, Matthew Harbin, Stephen Harbin, Hunter Harbin, C.J. Cooper, Summer Cooper, David Lawson, Amanda Brown, James Monk and Iris Loudermilk and 7 great grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to one of his favorite charities; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial/Honor Program FH, P.O.
