Funeral services for Norma Pickren Black, 90, of Thomasville are 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 2, 2008 at First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Dan Spencer and Heeth Varnedoe, III will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs Black died February 28, 2008 at Archbold Hospital. Born September 14, 1917 in Brantley County, Ga, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clayton & Zoie Dowling Pickren. On May 1, 1938 in Thomasville she married Allen M. Black, Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a member of First Baptist Church, worked at Warners as a supervisor and was a resident at Southern Pines for four years. Survivors include son & daughter-in-law, Marshall & Linda Black, daughter, Margaret Murphy, both of Thomasville, sister-in-law, Jane Pickren of Vidalia, Ga, grandchildren, Frank Murphy and wife Teri, Alane Kadel and husband Clint, Herbert Butler and wife Effie, Stephen Butler and wife, Lynn, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, loving caregiver Vera Williams and several nieces and nephews. Brothers J.T. Pickren, Tim Pickren, Ted Pickren, James Pickren, sister Erma Brownlow preceded her in death. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Saturday, at the funeral home.
