Services for Ollie Cleamon Giles, 88, of Thomasville, formerly of Ochlocknee, are at 3 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2010 at First Baptist Church Chapel, where he was a member. The Rev. Dr. Tom Jacobs and Gail Lancaster will officiate. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery on 5th Street. Active Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday school class, Kiwanis Club and former co-workers from Dixie Seed Company. Mr. Giles died Sept. 16 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born, Oct. 2, 1921, in Thomas County, he was the son of the late James Bennett and Mary Spence Giles. On July 13, 1947 in Cuthbert, GA., he married Ann Clements Giles, who survives. He was a veteran of the 19th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron, where he served overseas in the European Theatre. Mr. Giles was one of the original founders and manager of the Dixie Seed Company. He was for many years an active Deacon in the Ochlocknee Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday school, Training Union and was a Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Giles was a past president of the Golden K. Kiwanis Club and the Georgia Seedman's Association. He formerly served on the Thomas County School Board and on the Ochlocknee City Council. He had also been a member of The Gideons International. Other survivors include daughters, Cheryl Bill Carter of Hahira and Susan Ernie Sheffield of Colquitt; grandchildren, Jodi Heath Griner, Michael Kendall Sheffield and Christopher Sheffield special friend, Christy Bohannon; great granddaughter, Emma Griner; sister, Mary Bennett Smith; sister-in-law, Connie Giles; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gordon Giles and Paul Giles; sisters, Marie Parrish and Clara McCrory; brothers-in-law, Cliff Parrish, Albert McCrory, Dr. Robert Smith and William Clements; sisters-in-law, Shirley Giles and Inez Clements. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends the hour before the service in First Baptist Church Chapel on Sunday.
