Services for Mrs. Ophelia Sellers Mills, age 88, will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at First Newark Baptist Church. Pastor Steve Brooks and Rev. Mike Keown will officiate and interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Mills passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville, Ga. She was a great-great granddaughter of confederate civil war veterans William Lewis Sellers and Rufus Copher Cain. She was the granddaughter of renown Grady County Baptist minister William Green Sellers who served in the Pine Level - Blowing Hole area. Mrs. Ophelia was born in Grady County on December 9, 1924 to prominent farmer William Hugh Sellers and Mattie Cain Sellers. In September, 1936, at age eleven, she lost her father as a result of an auto/wagon accident on the Hawthorn Trail road after selling cotton in Cairo, Georgia. She attended Elpino School in Grady County where she was active in sports, especially basketball. On September 18, 1939 she married her husband of 60 years, George Harrison Mills, who in 1999 preceded her in death. Together they were employed by Poma Sola Flower Farms in Florida and later was share croppers in Grady and Thomas Counties. In 1956 she joined McCrory-Mclelland stores in Thomasville and retired after 35 years of loyal service. Mrs. Ophelia was a Christian of the Baptist faith and a charter member of Firsts Newark Baptist Church in Thomas, County. In her Christian walk she taught a senior ladies Sunday school class, was secretary/treasurer of the Women's Missionary Union, and Flower committee chair person. Besides her father, mother, and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother William Lewis Sellers and granddaughter Melanie Mills. She is survived by a brother Albert Julian Dianne Sellers, and sister in law, Mary White Sellers of Grady County, Her five children, Horace Patricia Mills, Mitchell County, Terry Jane Mills, Thomas County, Darlene Wayne Morrison, Vera Wayne McDonald, Grady County, and Ronnie Mills Milledgeville, Ga. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren: Michelle Blanchett, Travis Morrison, Eric Morrison, Macky Morrison, Jennifer McDonald, Todd McDonald, Chris McDonald, John McDonald, Angie Hatcher, Scott Morrison, Derren Mills, Lori Miller, Summer Washington, Jarrod Mills, Stephanie Oliger, Heather Tam, Ryan Mills, Myranda Mills, and Denne Mills. Also surviving are thirty great grandchildren and one great, great, grandchild, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
