Owen Johnson Race

Owen Johnson Race, aged 85, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, at his home in Thomasville, Georgia, surrounded by his sons and his faithful friend, Red. Owen was born on September 12, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Johnson and Elizabeth Race. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the Navy for four years, where he was stationed in Iceland and aboard the USS Independence.

Owen was a man of many talents. An avid reader with a passion for woodworking, he crafted beautiful birdhouses and was known for his skillful hands in fixing things. A devoted family man, he cherished the moments spent with his children and grandchildren. Owen was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns. He found joy in the company of his beloved dogs and was surrounded by wonderful neighbors.

Owen is survived by his sons, Mark Race (Shannon Lou) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tommy Race (Debbie) of Easley, South Carolina. He will be deeply missed by his adoring grandchildren: Trevor Race (Naudia), Brandon Race (Keiann), Emily Thompson (Ty), and Brittany Ryon (Mason), along with ten great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marilyn Race, and his beloved wife of 46 years, the love of his life, Nancy Race.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local animal agencies in Owen's memory, reflecting his love and compassion for animals. No services will be held at this time.
