Memorial services for Patricia Johnson Luckie of Thomasville are at 10:30AM Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mrs. Luckie died December 30, 2005 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. She was born Patricia Jean Johnson, June 26, 1926 in Johnson City, New York. She was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Jeannette Louise Gaylord Johnson. After graduating as valedictorian of Johnson City High School, she attended the Universidad de Mexico. She went on to receive a degree in economics from Vassar College and a degree in business management from Harvard-Radcliffe School of Business. In 1948, she married William McKinley Bill Luckie of Thomasville who preceded her in death. She became a successful commercial real estate developer and owner of the Gateway Shopping Center and Luckie Enterprises in Thomasville. In 1956 she won the ladies golf championship at Glen Arven Country Club. She served as president of the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation in 1957 and 1958. She assisted in the formation of the Thomasville Arts Guild as well as serving on the Executive Committee remaining active until the late 1980?s. Mrs. Luckie was an active volunteer as a pink lady at Archbold Memorial Hospital serving as president of the Women?s Auxiliary in 1966 and the chairperson of the first Arch Ball that same year. She served as chairman of the Women?s Auxiliary Tea in 1967 and 1968 and hosted the tea in her home in 1976. She was named Woman of the Year in 1968 by the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce. With her husband Bill, they raised money for Birdwood College, now Thomas University. She remained an active board member, also serving as treasurer, and was awarded trustee emeritus in 2000. She helped establish the Thomasville Humane Society in 1975 and served as it?s first president and remained on the board for several terms after. She also served on the board of the LeMoyne Art Gallery in Tallahassee, Florida. She was also an officer in the Thomasville Junior Service League as well as an officer or director of various other organizations. Mrs. Luckie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and the World Service Council. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mark Day, grandchildren, William Ranniger Day and Charles McKinley Day all of Thomasville, nephew, Charles and Cynthia Tunnicliff of Tallahassee, FL, niece, Patricia and Steven Wilson of Pasco, WA, great niece, Jeannette and Andy Goldsmith of Greenville, SC, great nephew, Phillip Tunnicliff of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, great niece, Andrea and Christian Amos of Calhoun, GA, great nephew, Steven Wilson of Valdosta, GA, great nieces, Nicole Wilson and Maile Wilson both of Pasco, WA, six great great nephews, one great great niece and cousin, Wilson and Vicky Brown of Binghamton, NY. She was preceded in death by her son, James Gaylord Luckie, brother, George Johnson, sister, Jeannette J. Tunnicliff and niece, Louise T. Davidson. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Roscoe and Alberta Williams for their years of service to the Luckie family and all the caregivers for their attention and tenderness.
