Private services for Paul Wesley Boyd will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Sunset Memorial Cremation Gardens. Paul passed away May 18, 2020 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Born October 4, 1963, he was the son of Ron Boyd, who survives and the late Sandra Michaels. He was married to April Smith, who survives.
A good man once said, “It is not the critic who counts...The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly...” Theodore Roosevelt.
Paul was in that arena. Life was something to live, to taste to see. Each day to Paul was played like the back nine, with resolve and great enthusiasm. His loves and passions were no mystery even if you knew him only briefly — family, friendship and his faith.
Paul’s “front nine” was done with gusto. He was an entrepreneur, an Army veteran, an avid golfer and if you’re reading this today, Paul is playing his “19th hole.” He’s “heading in” on God’s back nine and his life wasn’t just on par, it was a birdie and the fairway is crystal clear now!
I remember when I first met Paul, he pulled out an old Sports Illustrated from the 80s — he was in the gallery at The Masters in Augusta, Georgia and right in front of him was Jack Nicklaus swinging for the back nine. Paul left a mark and as many can attest it was a high one. His swing is perfect now, out of life’s many bunkers and into God’s welcoming arms.
Rowlings once wrote, “If you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” You never felt inadequate or unbefitting when in Paul’s presence. There was no condescending. Going the extra mile best described him. As time will undoubtedly prove, he was a friend and mentor to many.
Life wasn’t a hole in one; but a scramble and Paul’s approach shot now is spot on. Indeed, he is at rest. With his closest friend Jesus and the reunion with his mother must have been a sight to see even for heaven!
He is survived by his children Jessica Rose (Dave) of Thomasville, Misty Taylor (Chad) of Thomasville, and Rusty Law of Thomasville; grandchildren Dylan Hurst, Logan Hurst, Bryson Rose, Bayleigh Rose, Savannah Taylor, Jesse Taylor, Nicolas Taylor, Evelyn Taylor, R.J. Law, Ryland Law, and Brooklyn Law; siblings Brian Boyd of Virginia, Cindy Duncan (Donnie) of Virginia, and Tina Nichols (Tim) of Virginia; and grandmother Burrell See of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and granddaughter Carlee Law.
