Paul Sherman Meares
Graveside services for Paul Sherman Meares, 95, of Thomasville, GA are at 2pm, Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Sarasota Memorial Park Cemetery in Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Meares died September 13, 2008 at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville, GA. Born October 11, 1912, in Indian Rocks, Fla., where his ancestors were pioneer settlers, he was the son of the late Richard Maurice, Sr. and Sylvia Sherman Meares. He was married to Maudelle Morse Meares, who preceded him in death. He retired in 1975 from Gulf Coast Nurseries, where he was a Landscape Architect and the nursery owner. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he studied landscape design. He also attended bible training School in Sevierville, TN and Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, which is a Christ centered liberal art university and is affiliated with the Church of God. He was a member of the Northwoods Church of God, but recently moved from Florida, where he taught Sunday School for 60 years and and was church clerk and board member for many years and wrote an unpublished book entitled Exploration of God's Infallible Word. He was an avid sailor and built several boats, and was a member of the Sarasota Sailing Club. Survivors include daughters, Betty Ann Meares Courson and husband, Roger and Mary Evelyn Meares both of Thomasville; son, Norman Paul Meares of Thomasville; grandchildren, Ruby Marie Meares Quintana and Christopher Paul Meares and wife Illeana; great-grandchildren, Lisa Marie Quintana, Gisele Limones, Kylen Paul Meares and Niobe Annette Meares; brother, John L. Meares; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Maurice Meares, Jr. and Virgil Meares; and sisters, Mary Bernice Meares Morris and Velma Meares Beitler Mowry.
