Services for Paul J. Sherrod, 81 of Pavo, Georgia will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Steve Wooten and the Rev. Jon McClain will officiate and interment will be held in the Church Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Sherrod passed away August 31, 2015 at his residence. Born April 19, 1934 in Pavo, he was the son of the late James Stafford Sherrod and Gladys Edmondson Sherrod. On June 6, 1958 he married Mavis Morris who survives. Mr. Sherrod graduated from Pavo High School in 1952 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in France from 1955 to 1957. He was a retired farmer and he also enjoyed carpentry for family and friends and served as a Thomas County commissioner. Mr. Sherrod was happiest spending time camping, boating, skiing, hunting, traveling, fishing and working in the yards with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mavis and four children, Paul Sherrod Jr. and wife Leah, Donna Rogers and husband Buddy, Gwen Pittman and husband Greg and Patrick Sherrod and special friend Candus Knapp; nine grandchildren, Jamie and Kimberly Sherrod, Brent and Joelle Rogers, Daniel Sherrod, Tyler Rogers and fiancé Megan Tinnin, Heather Rogers, Ethan and Jessica Vick, Erin Vick, Nathan Sherrod and Katelyn Sherrod; four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Faye P. Morris of Hartwell, Georgia and Margaret B. Morris of Coolidge, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Stafford Glenn Sherrod.
