Peggy Benton

Peggy Benton, 94, of Thomasville, passed away on July 2, 2026, at her residence. Peggy was born at Archbold Memorial Hospital on June 16, 1932, and lived in Thomasville her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Teddy C. and Jessie Elma Watkins.

Peggy graduated from Thomasville High School in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lee Benton Sr., on August 1, 1951, at First Baptist Church and they shared 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2016. Peggy's primary focus was her family. She was a stay at-home mother and loved to cook and sew, making dresses for her girls and others. After her children grew up she decided to take a refresher typing course and later worked for the City of Thomasville and Garrison-Pilcher School. In addition, Peggy enjoyed her volunteer work as a Pink Lady at Archbold Hospital for many years .

Peggy is survived by her children Sandra Bailey (Tom), Patti Bannister (Johnny), and Robert Benton (Beth); grandchildren Margaret Ann Marsh (Wallace), Robert Lee Benton III (Bri), Mary Elizabeth Clifford (John), Leanne Culbreth (Til), Mary Grace Murphy (Rick), and Tom Bailey Jr. (Ashley), along with 10 great-grandchildren.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Benton Sr., her granddaughter, Rebecca Bailey Sanders, and her parents.

A private graveside service will be held by her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may sent to Archbold Hospice, Archbold Foundation, or the organization of your choice.
