Peggy Yowhn Hunter, 70, of the Salem Community of Pavo, GA, passed away on Friday, the 12th of February, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Peggy was born on Monday, the 23rd of October, 1950, in Thomas Co., Georgia, one of six children to the late John Daniel "J.D." Yowhn and Alma King Yowhn. The Yowhn family was a close family – where family was always a priority. She attended Barwick Schools and was a 1968 graduate of Brooks Co. High School.
In 1967, in her Junior year of High School, Peggy began working part-time with Southern Bell Telephone Company. Upon graduating, she began full-time as a long-distance operator for 18 years until the closing of the Thomasville office. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She then began a career with the State of Georgia with Thomas Co. Family & Children's Services, where she retired after 20 years of service. During those years of working with the State, she enjoyed working part-time at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital as a Switchboard Operator, the Information Desk, and Surgery Waiting Room for almost 20 years.
Throughout the years of working with different companies, Peggy met and made many great friends with her outgoing personality, laughter, genuine care, and compassion for people.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Kennedy Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Peggy had a deep faith in her Lord Jesus and not only talked about him – she lived it every day. We rejoice now that she has seen him face-to-face.
In Peggy's free time, she loved shopping. Peggy would spend countless hours riding the roads going from store to store in search of pocketbooks, shoes, clothes (for everybody), and anything that was a good deal. In the most recent years, Peggy took her love of shopping online. There wasn't a day that a box from Amazon wasn't being delivered.
Only second to Christ was her love for her husband and son, her siblings, and her extended family. Her devoted husband survives her of fifty-years, Bobby W. Hunter of the home; her son, Derek W. Hunter of Charlotte, NC; three sisters: Winona Taylor and her husband. L.M. of Pavo, Kay Vonier and her husband, Edward of Pavo, Janice Hart and her husband, James of Pavo; and one brother, Doyle Yowhn of Coolidge; brother-in-law, Willie Davis of Barwick; several sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law and many, many nieces, nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by a dear sister, Bonnie Faye Davis.
The Hunter family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon, Monday, the 15th of February, 2021, at Kennedy Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will follow in the Church, and burial will follow in the Hunter Plot in the Church cemetery. Bearing the casket will be her nephew's.
Memorials may be made in Peggy's memory to her Church, Kennedy Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Marie Sherrod, Church Secretary, 2815 Vonier Road, Pavo, GA 31778.
