Phillip C. Evans

December 14, 1953 — July 19, 2022

Phillip C. Evans passed away peacefully on July 19, 2022, at John D. Archbold Hospital in Thomasville, GA after a fierce battle with cancer. Phil never gave up hope and fought relentlessly until the very end. Phil's unwavering faith that Jesus was in total control was a comfort and inspiration. He knew God had a plan and that plan was good enough for him. Phil was born December 14, 1953, in Frankfort, Indiana to the late George and Vivian Evans. Phil lost his father at a young age but fondly remembered his love and commitment to family. He was taught by his mother to be fiercely loyal; a legacy he committed to carrying on. Phil had many names throughout his life. For some, he was known as Dad, a man who worked hard and would do anything to help his family. He was incredibly proud of each of his kids, of who they became, and loved them all exactly as they were. For many, he was known as Papa, the honored role that allowed him to stash and sneak candy when no one was looking. Papa was famous for his vivid imagination and gifted storytelling. The books he wrote for his children and grandchildren will always be a reminder of him, his love, and his wild antics. Others knew him as Boss Man. His toughness lives on in many former employees as he inspired work ethic, simple principles to live by, and a wealth of knowledge needed to be successful in business and in life. The memories of Phil will live on in homemade pizzas, gardening, homemade ice cream, canning, homemade pies, fruit trees, long stories, old sayings he kept on repeat, and a few new ones of his own. His quirky sense of humor will never be forgotten. Phil deeply believed in Jesus, family, honesty, and hard work. Principles he imparted to those he was close to. Principles that will be carried on. Phil leaves behind his beloved wife, Melinda, and the most amazing 8 children and stepchildren: Jason Evans and his wife Molly, Chad Evans and his wife Angela, Courtney Evans and his wife Laura, Leigh Anne Ramsey and her husband Brad, Jared Evans and his wife Elizabeth, Ashley Evans, Amanda Humphries and her husband Darry, and Melissa Morris and her husband Rem. Phil also leaves behind 27 (yes, that's 27) adored grandchildren, as well as, his sister Deanna Laughner and her husband Alvin, his brother George "Skip" Evans, and several nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his parents and sister Sondra Hines.
