R. Lewis Clark

Funeral services for R. Lewis Clark, 87, of Thomasville, will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at First Baptist Church Chapel. Rev. Steve Wooten will officiate and burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Born on June 19, 1922, he was the son of the late A. B. and Jessie Cornelia Hancock Clark. Mr. Clark was a Navy veteran, having served during WWII in the South Pacific Theater. He also served in the Civil Conservation Corp. On December 27, 1971, he married Annette Bolton Clark, who survives. He was owner of Lewis Clark Company, Jobbers Factory Warehouse, and Parts and Supply Co. in Tallahassee, FL. Mr. Clark served for 8 years as a Thomas County Commissioner during which time he was responsible for many innovations. He was a member of American Legion Post 31, an active Mason for approximately 45 years, a member of Kiwanis International and helped to establish the Thomasville Key Club. Mr. Clark was a member of First Baptist Church and a founder and member of Board of Directors of the bank currently known as SunTrust. Other survivors include daughter, Barbara Clark Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Clark & Powell Dean Waite, Sr.; daughters Lynn Clark and Luann Maxwell; son Eric Clark. He is also survived by grandchildren Garrett Moore, Victoria Moore, Ashley Waite, Clark Waite, B.J. Clark Miller, Erica Reagan, Christopher Clark, Joshua Clark, Lindsay Thornton, and 9 great grandchildren. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by grandsons Douglas Clark and Justin Clark Moore.
