Ralph Wendell Benton Sr. of Coolidge passed away on November 1, 2020 after an extended illness surrounded by his family with Linda holding his hand. Born on October 4, 1942 in Ochlocknee, Ga. he was the son of the late Clarence Benton and Frances America Chastain Benton. Mr. Benton was the General Contractor for Benton and Sons Construction where he worked hard for 40 years to build his business before his retirement. He enjoyed working with his sons Ralph and Randy who continue the business today. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed both hobbies on the Ochlocknee River where he grew up and loved teaching his grandchildren both sports. Mr. Benton was a dedicated and hard-working father and grandfather. Rose City Church of God was special to him as this is where he became a Christian and cherished a special friendship with Pastor Gerald Horne. He is survived by his former wife Linda Benton Lodge of Pelham whom he was married to for 46 years and raised three children with. Other survivors include his sons Ralph Benton Jr. and wife Sonja of Moultrie, Randy Benton of Thomasville; daughter Penny Redmond and husband John of Meigs; grandsons Trey Benton and wife Ansley, Jamie Benton, J.R. Redmond, Blake Jenkins and wife Kendra, Cody Jenkins; granddaughter Logan Redmond; sister Ruth Benton of Thomasville and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by brothers G.B. Benton and Jerrell Benton. He also had a special friend that he dearly loved, Mary Lee Flinchum. His family will hold a private memorial service at the Ochlocknee River where he grew up and where his heart was. Friends and family may visit his online memorial page at
