Rebecca Paulk Mathis

Rebecca Lillian Paulk Mathis passed away on February 6, 2014 at the Glenn-Mor Nursing Home in Thomasville, GA. She was 101 and had lived in Boston, GA most of her life. Rebecca was born on the Paulk farm in Willacoochee, GA on April 26, 1912, one of 12 children of Joel and Mary Isabelle “Lish” Paulk. She married Ulas Lee “U. L.” Mathis on February 24, 1933. Rebecca’s sister, Winnie, helped her pursue a beautician license. She owned and operated a beauty shop on Green Street in Boston for decades. She was the oldest member of the Boston Baptist Church, Boston, GA. Rebecca is survived by her grandchildren from her son James Jackson “Jack” Mathis: Steven Mathis of Maplesville, Alabama, David Mathis of Thomasville, GA, and Cheryl “Sheri” (Tim) Clark of Ochlocknee, GA; and from her son Bobby Joseph “Bobby” Mathis: Robert Joel “Joey” Mathis and Joshua Paulk “Josh” Mathis, both of Thomasville, GA. She is also survived by many great grandchildren: Brandon Howel and Keenan Lee Mathis; Crystal (P.J.) Willis and Sarah Kate Clark; Victoria Ann Thurman and Connor Paul Mathis. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Elaine (Bobby) Mathis of Thomasville, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, “U. L.”, and her sons: James Jackson “Jack” Mathis and Bobby Joseph “Bobby” Mathis. She was the last of her siblings to die, preceded by Freddie (Infant), Gussie, Maysie, Mary Ellen, Jessie, Elijah, Winnie, Nona, John Henry, Infant Paulk, and Ruby. A Memorial Service of her life will be held at the Boston Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Boston, GA on Sunday afternoon, February 23, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. www.allenfh.com
