Funeral services for Rebecca Bailey Sanders will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomasville First Baptist Church. Rev. David Cook will officiate. Rebecca Sanders of Thomasville GA passed away at her home on September 14, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. With a strong and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, Rebecca devoted her life to helping others as a nurse, a nurse practitioner, and a teacher.
Born in Thomasville GA on July 24, 1973, to Alfred (Tom) and Sandra Benton Bailey, Rebecca graduated from Thomas County Central High School in 1991 and then Georgia Southern University in 1995. Following her college graduation, Rebecca worked a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at JD Archbold. Yet her love of learning and helping others soon inspired Rebecca to further her education and training. She began her career as a nurse practitioner in the Archbold Pavo Clinic after successfully completing Valdosta State University’s Adult Health Nurse Practitioner Program and Florida State University’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program,
Whether she was working in Emergency Medicine, Women’s Health, or Family Practice, Rebecca never questioned her career path as it allowed her to follow her passion to help others. She had a true gift for making patients feel more comfortable by treating them not so much as patients, but as soon to be friends. Rebecca’s innate kindness also found an outlet as a teacher, nurturing and inspiring countless nurse practitioner students by her example.
Unsurprisingly, Rebecca approached her family and friends with the same caring and thoughtfulness that she approached her patients. She was the first to congratulate someone for their successes and always offered her shoulder to cry on during life’s sadder moments. In 1995 she married the love of her life, Rick Sanders, and they were blessed with two sons, Jacob Benton and Benjamin Reid. Rebecca and Rick loved to be outdoors and enjoyed doing anything that included their sons and families. Whether it was watching her family golf, fish, or the trips to Mexico Beach or the annual Roddenberry beach trip, Rebecca was happiest when she was with her family.
Rebecca is survived by her husband and their sons, her parents Tom and Sandra, her brother Tom Bailey Jr. and wife Ashley, their son Lucas, Grandmother Peggy Benton, and special in-laws Martha Ward and Pat and Jim Roddenberry.
