RETHA STROBO STRICKLAND OBITUARY
Services will be conducted for Retha Paulk Strobo Strickland at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville, GA. Steve Clawson will officiate with interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery to follow. Mrs. Strickland died on January 1, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, GA where she had been in residence for several months. Mrs. Strickland was born in Grangerburg, AL, youngest of the 8 children of Joseph Alfred Paulk and Minnie Lee Harp. She married S. W. "Scotty" Strobo and moved to New York City where she and her family lived for 5 years. The family relocated to Thomasville, GA in 1942 where Mrs. Strickland resided for 68 years. Several years after leaving the workforce, Mrs. Strickland returned to school and received her nursing license. She was employed as a nurse at Archbold Hospital and Vashti School. She was very active at East Side Baptist Church and Dawson Street Baptist Church where she was involved in several positions of service: Sunday School teacher, G.A. Leader, S.S. Department Director, choir member, etc. She was preceded in death by husbands S.W. "Scotty" Strobo and Wiley Strickland; sisters Fluera Guy, Lottie Cole, Duma Devol, and Pauline Enfinger; brothers James Dewey Paulk, James Alfred Paulk, and L.D. Paulk. She is survived by son Raymond Strobo and daughter-in-law Winifred Cobb Strobo of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter Camille Strobo Thompson and husband, David, of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter Kristina Strobo Peek and husband, Gardner, of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren Nathan, Noah, and Nicholas Thompson, and Will, Maddie, Worth, and Wyatt Peek; nieces Patricia Brown, Barbara Little, Margaret Simpson, Mildred Whitehead, Eilene Dekle, Paula Pena, Sue Lockwood, and Peggy Haynes, nephews Charles Enfinger, Jerry Paulk, Dan Strobo, and Robert Strobo; and many great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff, nurses, and caregivers at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, GA for the care and concern they exhibited for Mrs. Strickland during the last few months of her life. Memorials may be given to the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Boys Ranch near Hahira, GA. Receiving of friends will be at the Allen & Allen Funeral Home on Thursday evening, January 6, from 7:00-9:00 PM. Guests may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com
