Rev. Benjamin F. Rountree, Jr.
Services for Rev. Benjamin F. Rountree, Jr., 81, of Boston, are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Salem Baptist Church. The Rev. Marshall Dixon, Rev. Sherman Hall and Rev. Chris Lodge will officiate and interment is in Salem Cemetery. Mr. Rountree died October 8 at his residence, after an extended illness. Born September 26, 1926, in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Inez Lovern Rountree, Sr. On November 2, 1947, in Atlanta, he married Catherine Little Rountree, who survives. He served in the US Navy as a Gunner?s Mate Third Class aboard the USS SMALL and USS DICKSON from 1944 to 1947 during World War II. He worked as a Plant Maintainer for Western Union before his tenure in the ministry. He served as pastor to Capel Baptist Church in Grady County, Evergreen and Dixie Baptist Churches in Brooks County, Salem Baptist Church in Thomas County and Kingwood Baptist in Colquitt County. During his senior ministry, he returned to Salem Baptist in Pavo and served as Associate Pastor. Other survivors include, daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha Rountree and Joel Wood of Cordele, Cathy Rountree and Chap Jackson of Funston, Melanie Rountree and Jimmy Smith of Dacula; daughter, Patty Rountree Thompson of Valdosta; son, John Mark Rountree of Moultrie, grandchildren, Amy Wood Stowe and husband, Warren of Locust Grove, Bevin Wood and wife, Victoria of Marietta, Matthew Adams and wife, Cam of Moultrie, Jenny Adams of Valdosta, Zachary, Caitlin, and Jeremy Smith of Dacula, Blake Lane of Savannah, Brandy Lane Trapp and husband Jason of Moultrie and Clay Jackson of Funston; great grandchildren, Josh, Hannah and Jared Stowe of Locust Grove and Ben Brown Trapp of Moultrie; and sister and brother-in-law, Frances Rountree and Charlie Harrison of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
