Services for Rev. James R. "Jimmy" Odum, 83, are 2 pm, Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church with interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Billy Rogers officiating the graveside. Rev. Johnny Cooper, Lindsey Evans and Jackson Moore will officiate. Pallbearers are Jon Odum, Jarren Odum, Stephen Mathis, Andrew Stephens, Jack Cannady and Reese Brookerd. Mr. Odum passed away November 3 at Archbold Hospital after a lengthy illness. As a young man, he served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. After being honorably discharged, he became a businessman in Nashville, Ga for the next 25 years. He became ordained as a Deacon of First Baptist Church in Nashville in 1961. This was the beginning of a long service to the ministry. He was ordained to preach the gospel at First Baptist Church of Nashville in 1978. Eight years later in 1986, he was called to Pastor the Second Baptist Church of Tifton where he served for 12 years. He then moved to Thomasville and became Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Pavo for 7 years. At that time, he became an interim Pastor for Omega Baptist Church in Omega for 1 year. He continued to preach the gospel as a fill-in Pastor as needed throughout Southwest, Ga until the time of his illness in 2010. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte W. Odum; children, Rick Odum and wife Cindy of Maryville, TN, Paul Odum and wife Janice of Thomasville, Ann Herring and husband Kyle of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jon Odum, Jarren Odum, Stephen Mathis, Julie Cannady and several great grandchildren; brother, Pete Odum of Blakely, sister Doris Sammons of Albany and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Robert & Lucille Odum, brothers, Watson Odum, Billy Odum and Curtis Odum. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Saturday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel.
