Richard A Butts

Funeral services for Richard Allen Butts will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St Augustine Catholic Church. An interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born in Montgomery County Missouri to William and Lenora Butts, Richard graduated from Montgomery High in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Brooke, San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1953, where he met his wife, Ada. They married on August 18, 1956. He left active duty in 1960 to begin his federal service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In May of 1968, they moved to Thomasville and joined the St. Augustine Catholic Church. Richard had many hobbies, including electronics, auto repairs, lawn care, gardening, carpentry, home renovations, gun restoration, and hunting. Richard retired from federal service in 1988 after 35 years of service to our country. He served proudly with the Knights of Columbus and was a fourth-degree knight. Richard was married to Ada for fifty-nine and a half years, until her death in 2015. They have five children: Addie Salvano (Bob), Nelson Noriega (Rachel), Deborah Garland (Tommy), Grace Butts and Charlie Butts (Deborah). He has 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ada, as well as his brother Curtis Butts. A visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2024, from 5-7 pm in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St Augustine Catholic Church.
