Richard “Rick” R. Carlson, age 72, of Thomasville, Georgia, passed away on June 16, 2026, in Thomasville, Georgia.
Rick was born on June 7, 1954, in Fennville, Michigan, to the late Roger Carlson and Beverly Stanley Carlson.
Rick made his home in Thomasville, where he built a life rooted in music, service, and community. He graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, with a degree in music, and later earned a Master’s degree from Northwestern, a foundation that shaped both his career and his calling.
An accomplished and devoted musician, Rick began his professional career as organist at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. Throughout his life, he also served as organist at All Saints Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, and St. Thomas Episcopal Church, all in Thomasville. A longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Rick also attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in recent years.
Rick was deeply passionate about the arts and faithfully served the Thomasville community for 28 years as a volunteer with the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation, holding various leadership roles during his years of service.
He treasured time with family and friends. Beyond the Organ, Rick especially enjoyed playing his beloved harpsichord for those fortunate enough to hear it. Known for his joyful spirit and infectious laughter, Rick found great happiness watching I Love Lucy, which never failed to bring him smiles and laughter.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Carlson and Beverly Stanley Carlson, and his sister, Terrie Knikelbine.
He is survived by his loving life partner, James “Jimmy” Singletary, and his nieces, Regan and Jimilee, along with other family members, many dear friends and members of the community who will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Thomasville Entertainment Foundation Po Box 1976, Thomasville, Georgia, 31799-1976, or Miss Kitty 425 Covington Avenue, Thomasville GA , 31792
