Richard (Dicky) Thompson

March 21, 1945 — November 4, 2018

Richard “Dicky” Thompson, 73, passed peacefully at his Haleyville, AL home on November 4, 2018 of long-term health complications. A visitation will be held November 6, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Haleyville, AL in the Slaughter Fellowship Hall from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Visitation in Thomasville, GA will be held November 7, 2018 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home from 2pm to 3pm followed by a graveside service at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Dicky was born in Panama City, FL on March 21, 1945 to James and Sadie Thompson. Dicky grew up in Thomasville, GA. Graduating as a star and the “Lightning” of the Thomasville High School Bulldogs. He was inducted into the Thomasville/Thomas County Sport Hall of Fame in 1994. Attending University of Alabama from 1964-67, Dicky played under Coach Bear Bryant. He lived Alabama football, helping to win 2 National Championships in 1965 and 1966 for the Crimson Tide.

He is predeceased by his parents and brother Ray Thompson. He will be forever remembered and loved by: his wife, Judy Thompson, and three beloved daughters, Kelsey (Todd) McNutt, Andi (Andrew) Burch, and Kate (Alex) Lyubarsky; as well as his three grandchildren Cooper McNutt, Sadie McNutt, and Emerson Burch; his siblings Sonny (Carolyn) Thompson, Tricia (Larry) Dennis, and Jane (Gary) Brady; Paula Thompson.
