Services for Richard T. Freck, 88 of Thomasville will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Richard was the third of six children of the late Thomas A. Freck and Lois A. Thompson Freck. He was born on March 21st, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, North Carolina. As a young child his family lived several places in South Carolina, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Florida and finally calling Asheville, North Carolina home. As a young man Richard worked on televisions and radios performing repairs, installations and made customer deliveries for the family's business Freck Radio & TV in Asheville. Richard felt the need to fulfill his patriotic duty and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After boot camp he was stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska as part of the Alaska Defense Command SSI, with the 25th Infantry Division and assigned for cold weather training. Later the 25th Infantry was deployed to Japan as an occupation force and to prepare for Korea. Richard served as Sergeant for the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. At the end of the war, he returned to Asheville and years later he married. Newly married they decided to move to Miami where he began his career at the telephone company and settled in St. Petersburg, Florida. Richard enjoyed his career and dedicated 30 years of service to General Telephone and he retired as the West Coast Division Manager. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. Freck and Lois A. Thompson Freck, his sister Betty Freck Sams and his older brother Max Freck. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Reed Freck, his daughter Crystal (Kim) Freck Hansen and son-in-law Jeff Hansen of Monticello, FL; his son Michael T. Freck, Sr. and daughter-in-law Cynthia Freck of Arden, NC. He is also survived by his three younger siblings, his brother Randy Freck and sister-in-law Ellen Freck of Weaverville, NC; his sister Marlene Freck Graham and brother-in-law Norman Graham of Greensboro, NC; his brother David Freck and sister-in-lawJan Freck of Fairview, NC. Other survivors include his beloved grandchildren, grandson Kyle Hansen of Oviedo, FL; grandson Michael T. Freck, Jr. of Arden, NC; granddaughter Ashley D. Padgett of Arden, NC and grandson Tyler J. Padgett of Arden, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all employees of Legacy Village at Plantation Manor for their kind and loving care of Richard over the past years. Additionally, the family expresses their gratitude to the employees and volunteers for their tender care and keeping Richard comforted over the past months.
