Richard Wayne Hunsucker

A memorial service for Richard Wayne Hunsucker, 75, will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 24, 2017 at First Baptist Church where he was a member. Rev. Marty Carnes and Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church chapel at 10:00 AM. Mr. Hunsucker died at home, Saturday, March 18, after a long illness. He was born April 25, 1941 in Natchez, Mississippi and was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Hunsucker and Ora Cushman Hunsucker. Mr. Hunsucker was in the US Army from 1959 to 1963. He served his country for three years stateside and one year in Korea. Prior to moving to Thomasville, he worked as a territory manager for Hennessy Industries out of Atlanta. He moved to Thomasville in February of 1995 where he assumed co-ownership of Horne Candy Company. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Horne Hunsucker, whom he married on August 15, 1992. Other survivors include sons, Richard “Rik” Hunsucker, Jr., of Douglasville, Georgia; Robert “Rob” Hunsucker (Trudy) of Loudon, Tennessee; stepsons, Scott Dixon of Atlanta; Christopher Dixon (Angela) of Landstuhl, Germany; and Bennett Stewart (Danielle) of Thomasville; grandchildren, Richard “Trey” Hunsucker, III and Austin Hunsucker, both of Marietta; Stella Salvi Dixon of Landstuhl, Germany; and Jacob, Noah and Nate Stewart of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews and close supporting caregivers: Yolanda Duvenhage and Shirlene McNeil and the wonderful nurses from Pruitt Health Hospice: Suzanne Roberts, RN and Earnestine Stewart, CNA.
