Funeral services for Rita May Scott Cook, 78, of Thomasville will be Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Cook died on Saturday, November 14 in Duluth, GA. Born April 16, 1931 in Montgomery, AL, she was the daughter of the late Burton Alcott and Orrie May Munnerlyn Scott. Growing up in Atlanta, she was a 1949 graduate of Bass High School and a 1953 graduate of Agnes Scott College with a degree in Mathematics. Upon graduation she moved to Thomasville and worked for the Social Security Administration for 8 years. On September 3, 1955 in Montgomery, AL, she married the late Carroll Edward Cook. In 1960, she and Mr. Cook founded Cook Real Estate Agency. She helped in the operation of the business and performed many tasks including drawing house plans and selling real estate as an Associate Broker. After Mr. Cook's death, she continued to operate Cook Investments. Mrs. Cook was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist in Thomasville. Survivors include a son, Carroll Edward "Eddie" Cook, Jr. of Norcross, GA; a son and daughter in law, Richard Wayne and Mary Cook of Thomasville; and a daughter and son in law, Linda May Cook Burton and Van Burton of Loganville, GA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Alyssa Nicole Burton, Jennilee Grace Burton, Madison Elizabeth Cook, and Camille Annette Cook and a sister-in-law Olivia Purcell Scott of Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by a brother, Burton Alcott Scott, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Tuesday evening at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
