He was born September 21, 1939, in Boston, Ga to the late Van Alvis and Marybel Ring Duncan. Gene attended Boston High School where he was a member of the Boston Indian basketball team. He retired from Coats North America, Thomasville, Ga in December of 2000 after 42 years of service. He was an active member of Pineland Baptist Church and enjoyed driving the church bus to pick up children for church until Covid put a halt to this ministry and then his health declined, and he was no longer able to drive the bus. He also enjoyed working on mission projects with the men of the church. He enjoyed helping his good friends Charles and Connie Enfinger build their mountain cabin in North Carolina. Other things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, scuba diving, and motorcycle trips with friends and family. Many miles were logged on the Gold Wing Trike with his wife and friends touring God’s beautiful country. Gene married Judy L. Rehberg on September 23, 1960 and was looking forward to celebrating 62 years together this year. Their union was blessed with a little blonde-haired blue-eyed daughter, Angela Dawn (Angie). She was the pride of his life and the apple of his eye “Daddy’s little girl”. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Judy, and daughter Angie and her husband Bretley C. Williams; grandchildren Whitney Dawn Spivey (Brandon); Blake Cameron Williams (Malorie) and Lyndsey Victoria Bearden (Dustin), and six great-grandsons; Kason Dean Spivey, Colton Vickers Spivey and Clayton Duncan Spivey; Briar Charles Williams, Flint Sawyer Bearden and Laken Ray Bearden and sisters Anita J. Rehberg and Cheri D. Dunham. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Joann Pullen; brothers in law Jack Dunham, C.E. Pullen, and Dewitt Rehberg.
