Graveside services for Robert J. Bob King, 76, of Boston will be Sunday January 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Boston Cemetery. Rev. John Grebeta and Jimmy Clanton will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Henley, Fred Bass, Rex Hodges, Lee Kirkpatrick, Wallace Stevens, Terry Chastain, Phil Clay, Larry Fudge, Marty Adams, Tom Shenker, Ray Pearce and Mark Henley. Mr. King died on Thursday, December 30, 2010 in Thomasville. Born December 25, 1934 in Linden, AL, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Annie Ray King Merritt. On September 25, 1963 in Linden, AL he married Elaine Rose Matlock, who survives. Mr. King was a Plantation Manager and a past member of New Ochlocknee Baptist Church and a current member of Salem Baptist Church. He was a member of the GA-FL Field Trial Club, GA Shooting Dog Handler's Club and the Sheriff's Auxiliary. Mr. King served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. He awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal. Other survivors include a sons and daughters in law Lee & Dawn Phillips, Roger and Teresa King , a son Charles Ray King, all of Boston and a son and daughter in law Bud and Brenda Phillips of Demopolis, AL , a daughter and son in law, Regina and Kent Gilliland of Birmingham, AL . He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Marissa & Norman Barden, Megan and Greg Brown, Heather King, Matthew and Alex King, Brooks Phillips, Lane Phillips, Taylor Gilliland, step grandchild, Caleb Timmerman and a great grandchildren Scarlett Brown and Lennon Phillips. Other survivors include sisters and brothers in law Eula & Edwin Jones, Glenda Chambers, Brenda and Gerald Clayton and Nina & Wayne Ward, all of Mobile, AL, a brother and sister in law James R. and Betsy King of Albertville, AL and former daughter in law Tracey Phillips of Atlanta.. Mr. King was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Davis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Saturday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel.
