Prior to that he drove an ice delivery truck along the west coast of Florida and met the love of his life, Jean Weidman, at one of the stops on his route.

Robert and Jean married on October 21, 1946, in Cairo, Ga., and were married almost 69 years before she passed away in 2015. They raised a family, took care of grandchildren, and took care of other relatives throughout their lifetime together. Robert was a hardworking man and always saw to the needs of his family. Robert was an avid bird hunter and enjoyed CB radios. After retiring, Robert enjoyed working in his garden, fishing in his pond, and taking road trips with Jean.
