Memorial services for Robert P. "Bobby" Singletary, 85, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at Dawson Street United Methodist Church, where he was a member and served time as Superintendent of Sunday School. The Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson and Jimmy Clanton will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers are Gene Roland, Randy Weeks, Tommy Dixon, Grady Hurst, Dick Traylor, Bob Pierce, Raymond Bates, Jimmy Hudson, Gene Greenwood, Roy Lilly, Sr., Ken Ellsworth, Bob Emmett, Tommy Wilson and Don Hill. Mr. Singletary died Oct. 25 at his residence. Born, Feb. 11, 1925 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Shelton R. and Mary Tucker Singletary. He was married to Suzanne Williams Singletary, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served during World War II. He owned and operated Singletary Tire. He was a former Thomas County Commissioner. He was a member and past President of the Thomas County Kiwanis Club, member and past president of the Georgia Tire Dealers Association, where he was awarded dealer of the year and was a Mason and member of the Hasan Temple in Albany. He received the outstanding service award in community leadership for the Thomasville Jaycees. He enjoyed hunting, mullet fishing and spending time with his family. Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and John Carr, Beverly and Dexter Harrison and Elaine and Dennis Riggs; son, Curtis Singletary; brother, Shelton "Shell" Singletary; sisters, Jean Smith and Mary Frances Fowler; sister-in-law, Muriel Singletary; grandchildren, Clarke Carr, Jared Singletary and wife, Kathryn, Deren Hooks and husband, Bill, Titus Singletary and Dylan Singletary; great-grandchildren, Stone Singletary and Dawson Singletary; his care-giver and friend, Betty Ann Williams. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megen Carr; and brother, Donald Singletary. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
