Services for Robert Roscoe Maxwell of Thomasville are at 3:00PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor and the Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dan Jones, Roy Jones, Rex Trawick, Frank Jones, Rick Sanders, Stonewall Jackson, Howard Griffin, James Hilliard, Logan Lewis and Frank Connell. Honorary Pallbearers are the Sue McTier Sunday School Class and Employee of Maxwell Sheet Metal. Mr. Maxwell died November 9, 2003 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born October 31, 1919 in Grady Co., Georgia to parents, Lee Roy and Annie Pearl Bryant Maxwell. He resided at his home in Thomasville for 52 years. He received his early education in Grady County and graduated high school from P. K. Young in Gainesville, Florida. He attended the University of Florida, then enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving two years pre-war in the Panama Canal. He served four years in the Navy armed guard aboard merchant ships to Cuba, S. Africa, India, Ceylon, Australia, Panama, North Africa, Italy, southern France and the Far East during World War II. He married Vera Jordan in 1951 who predeceased him by one year. They started Maxwell Sheet Metal Works Co., Inc. in 1951 and joined the First United Methodist Church of Thomasville. He served on the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board, was a member of the Keenager group, and went on mission trips to Belize, Costa Rica and South Carolina. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 40 years, received Kiwanian of the Year in 1979, and built the pancake griddles used for its annual fundraiser. He was an inventor and a perfectionist. Past member of Glen Arven Country Club, the Elks Club, Wheel and Dealing, the Thomasville Touchdown Club and Ducks Unlimited. He was a lover of Labrador Retrievers and an avid dove hunter. He was a corporate member of Archbold Medical Center and on the Appeals Board of the City of Thomasville. He was a member of the Jimmy Carter Peanut Brigade and a Seminole Booster. Survivors include children Elaine Maxwell Patrick of Marietta, Pam Maxwell Wright of Thomasville, and Lee Robert Bobby Maxwell of Thomasville; son-in-law Jeff Patrick and daughter-in-law Karen Merritt Maxwell; grandchildren John L. Wright, III, Hannah Elaine Wright, Adam Maxwell Patrick, and Jordan Kinsley Maxwell; sister Leona Johnson of Grady Co., Georgia. Brother Edwin Maxwell, stepbrother A. M. Gainey and stepsister Grace Herring predeceased him. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 975, Thomasville, Georgia 31799.
